В связи с механическим воздействием и поражениями кожи у детей в нее могут проникнуть и там остаться инородные тела (песок, частицы растительного происхождения, металла, искусственные материи, кусающие или колющие аппараты насекомых и пр.).
Если не обратить своевременно внимания на попадание подобных инородных тел в кожу ребенка, а у детей трудно в этом отношении добиться анамнестических данных, то позже вокруг этого инородного тела образуется «гранулема инородного тела», диагностирование которой может создать серьезные затруднения и неожиданные сюрпризы для клинициста.
Такие «гранулемы инородного тела» наблюдались у детей в виде продолговатых опухолевидных образований (1 X 3 см) в коже спины, в виде небольших припухлостей в коже головы и т. д.
Покрывающая их сверху кожа остается почти неизмененной; консистенция твердая; субъективных ощущений нет; иногда налицо неспецифические общие нарушения (ослабление аппетита, нарушение сна, изменения в поведении ребенка).
При вторичном нагноении может наступить спонтанное выталкивание инородного тела.
При вскрытии гранулемы и гистологическом или простом микроскопическом исследовании обнаруживается природа инородного тела, но его точная идентификация не всегда возможна и требует в ряде случаев особых исследований (фазовоконтрастная микроскопия, спектрографическое исследование и пр.).
